On white low fence by entrance to car park to Buckingham golf course. 1 mile west of Buckingham.
On the Exit post of Buckingham Golf Club where the exit and white wood fence was in 1971. The white fence has gone and the open aspect now improved with replanted and matured hawthorne hedge to match the old field hedges.
The golf club has grown with a block paved car park replacing the gravel and a smart new club house. The course has enlarged from 9 holes then to a full 18 holes now. Beyond the course, on the horizon, many old trees in the photographs are identifiable standing today. On the course new landscaping has planted many young trees but one old pollarded ash still stands near the exit.
The main Buckingham, Brackley, Bletchley, Bicester, Banbury road that runs past the club now carries much more traffic reflecting these towns’ new industries, out of town retail parks and garden centres that affect from afar what was once mainly agricultural land. On a personal note this road is one of my teenage memories. Going to school near here I have walked it, run it, bicycled it, hitch-hiked it, learnt to drive along it, then driven myself to parties along it. My visit doing the All England Sculpture was the end of that era. In time life goes full circle and I find myself driving it again doing the school run.
