England Revisited
Summer 1971: Simon English visited 75 points across the country to write the word 'ENGLAND' on England.

The last flag. V for Victory. On a scots pine in a plantation. 2 miles south of Warsop. 3 1/2 miles north of Mansfield.
On a Scots pine in the same plantation as I visited at night as the last point of the 1971 journey, not the same tree but the same position as guided by my old maps. Forest Hill Plantation is now forestry Commission and is a well planted mixed pine and deciduous – oak, Spanish chestnut, birch and holly.
Point 36 is on the edge of the plantation. A footpath runs north between the new wood and field with big old railway sleeper posts of what must have been a substantial fence. This suggests a different landscape here before the plantation. The trig point across the road implies there were once open views on this low hill top. The soil here is very sandy which make it ideal ground for growing carrots of which the field has a fine crop.
There is a row of pylons carrying electricity east to west through the plantation which I assume require suppression of tree growth under the wires.
Where the path comes off the main road there is a microwave tower which is one new modern feature as is the expansion of the Redbrick House Hotel nearby.
