England Revisited
Summer 1971: Simon English visited 75 points across the country to write the word 'ENGLAND' on England.
Summer 2010: Simon English made a new artwork by revisiting those points.

On a hornbeam in the copse at Gallowhill Farm. 1 mile N.E. of Corbridge.
On a small stake holding a tree guard in which is a dead sapling planted to replace the tree on which the 1971 flag was placed.
Originally I identified the tree as a Hornbeam; however, looking at the pressed leaves I feel it was a Wych Elm. This had fallen (storm?) but I was able to find its rotting bowl and roots under the moss and nettles.
The stone walled wood still has most of its original trees but Gallowhill Farm no longer farms the adjacent fields. One hundred and twenty yards south the new A69 runs through a cutting, the noise from which is constant.
